Problems of reflecting nationality in literary translation

Abstract

One of the most important challenges in the translation process is to transfer the national spirit of the original work to another environment.

National words are one of the main means of determining the historical and national character of a work of art. Interpreting such words in translation is one of the most responsible and difficult issues of such a complex problem as the restoration of the original national character in another language.

Our article also deals with the realities of national identity, including the names of food and the concepts of everyday life, and how the link is expressed in Hindi. The article examines the use of words denoting nationality in the Hindi translation of Odil Yakubov's “Treasure of Ulugbek” and Pirimkul Kadyrov's “Starry Nights”. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of how these words are translated by the translator. The article discusses how the names of kebabs, soups, stews, patties, pastries and other similar foods, as well as words such as blankets, tablecloths, trimmings, sandals, sandals, which reflect the concepts of everyday life, are reflected in the translation.

The article also details which words the translator used most often in the Hindi translation of Odil Yakubov's "Treasure of Ulugbek" and Pirimkul Kadyrov's "Starry Nights" and what methods of translation he used. The article also contains the views of a number of scholars on what to look for in the translation of national words in historical works.

The literary sources for this scientific article are the works of the famous Uzbek writer Odil Yakubov's "The Treasure of  Ulugbek" and Pirimqul Kadyrov's  "Starry Nights" and their translation into Hindi by a skilled translator Sudhir Kumar Mathur. The successes and failures of the translated work were detailed.
