Abstract

This article is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, the great son of the Indian people, the genius of the struggle for the independence of the country, the 75th anniversary of the independence of India and Uzbek Indology. The article examines the issues of the conquest of India by British colonialists, where the features of the long-term anti-colonial struggle of the Indian people for the creation of a self-governing national state are highlighted. Particular attention is paid to the influence of the struggle for freedom under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi on the literary process of India, analysis of works of art that reveal the disasters and suffering that befell the common people, such writers as Yashpal, Vishnu Prabhakar, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, Premchand, Krishan Chandar.
